Seamless automation for XXL cheese

Proven expertise offers maximum investment a maximum of security

Capacity bottlenecks in an XXL cheese plant in Germany made it necessary to build a completely new hall. With TRAPO, the managing director found a partner who impressed with future technology and at the same time decades of experience in hygiene design for care areas.

12,000 tons of processed and fresh cheese and around 28,000 tons of packaged cheese - figures that speak for themselves in their gigantic scale. In addition to traditional food retailers, the cheese plant's clientele includes all German discounters, wholesalers, the food processing industry and partners in the co-manufacturing sector. 20 percent of the products are exported to 50 countries worldwide.

All components used in the new hall operate autonomously. Special advantage for the customer: TRAPO supplies hardware and software from a single source: by eliminating interfaces to third-party systems, sources of error are eliminated in advance.

Two high-performance HLP Series palletizers are in operation 24/7: The first variant with a y-axis serves two palletizing stations and has two infeed areas at the top, the palletizing stations at the bottom. The second variant has a traversing axis: The palletizer travels along a predefined length and palletizes goods from five independently running infeeds, sorted by type, to five assigned palletizing positions.

A fleet of six automated guided vehicles of the TTS Series takes over the onward transport of the cheese variations packed on pallets to stretching, to the warehouse and to the loading station.

All components are monitored and controlled via TIM, the TRAPO Intelligent Management System - this also allows spontaneous optimization. TIM controls, selects free shuttles and sends them on the shortest or fastest route.

The customer decided in favor of mobile conveyor technology in order to be able to use the available hall space flexibly and depending on the product. The automated guided vehicles can be configured according to a modular principle: with different designs, payloads, speeds and superstructures such as MRK robots, lifting, etc.

Warehousing is also involved: The TRAPO Transport Shuttle (TTS Series) and TRAPO Warehouse Shuttle (TWS Series) are used in combination: for precise, time-saving transfers and optimal use of warehouse space. The TWS travels three meters per second at an acceleration of 1.5 m/s² and completes the cycle of extending, gripping and retracting in a maximum of three seconds.

The multi-award-winning and patented TRAPO Loading System TLS 3600 completes the seamless automation - right into the truck. The TLS automatically compensates for height differences at the loading ramp and corrects its position. The actual loading of the truck with pallets takes place in three steps. First, three pallets are placed next to each other in a row on the stationary part of the system and aligned. This is followed by picking up and loading the row. During the loading process, another row of pallets is formed on the stationary part and made available. The customer is highly satisfied and praises - besides the successful automation - the gained flexibility and increased efficiency, but also proudly the elegant appearance of the line, which is completely made of stainless steel.
